2013 The Blonde Shiraz

From a single vineyard in the ‘Stone Well’ parish below the Western Ridge of the Barossa Valley which contains a myriad of soil types including red clays, grey sands and a deep limestone base (Blonde in colour). It is these soils and the climate that help produce riper, plumper, sweeter fruited wine while still retaining acidity due to the higher limestone content of the soil. Picked between the 12th and 16th February (Ave. 5th March) and completely de-stemmed before a three week wild yeast fermentation with 5% Viognier skins. Hand plunging twice daily for the first two weeks and then matured for one year in larger 500L barrels of which 50% were new.

Colour is deep red with purple rim. Aromas of wild raspberry, plum, apricot chews, red liquorice and creamy sarsaparilla. The palate has sweet plum and red fruits with musky undertones and supple peach skin tannins. Unfined & Unfiltered. Drink 2016-2026. Decant for 1 hour minimum. James Halliday, Wine Companion – 96 Points

2015 The Brunette Shiraz

From a Shiraz vineyard planted on top of Moppa Hill (360m) at the highest elevation on the Western Ridge of the Barossa. The vineyard has a perfect easterly aspect and gradient to catch the morning sun and is shaded from the late heat of the day. The soils are lean red clays with mixed ironstone and quartz, producing optimum conditions for dark, savoury fruits and fine, structured tannins.

Thick with blackberry fruit aromas and flavors. Tarry and darkly spiced. Really brooding. Tannins are cast in dense yet smooth form. The depth of flavor here is stunning, as is the balance. Drink now for a decade or more. James Suckling/Nick Stock – 95 Points

Deepish red colour with a good tint of purple, the bouquet highly appealing, with an aromatic spice note that persists. The palate has rich, ripe, sweet fruit and the overall impression is of a delicious wine, properly ripe and beautifully handled. A superb wine; a classy modern Barossa shiraz. Drink 2017 to 2037. Huon Hooke – 95 Points

2016 The Redhead Shiraz

This is the result of four year' of work in sourcing and honing a vineyard for this style of Shiraz. Sourced from Flaxman Valley which is part of the Eden Valley at about 500 metres elevation where a very different style of Barossa Shiraz can grow. Elevation, shallow top soil, quartz, ironstone and yellow to orange clays all create greater texture, complexity and above all finesse. This is Grand Cru Barossa Shiraz. Bottled under Diam30 with a wax seal.

...real complexity. Brambly nuances are matched with just-picked blueberries, crushed violets, clay, rust, mahogany and orange zest. The tight and steely tannin structure easily supports the layers of blue and darker fruit, which sweep fresh and long through a palate of real depth and finesse. A mineral yet chewy finish. Hard to resist now, but drink in 2025. James Suckling/Nick Stock – 96 Points

Silky smooth, spicy, plush and packed with red and black fruits, sage and dried mint, some grilled meat in there too. It’s dense, but not heavy, with a beautiful set of milk chocolate tannin that coats the mouth, gently, fine and even acidity, and a nutty vanillin and dried herb perfumed aftertaste that carries very long. Beautiful wine. Fine and elegant...Drink 2019-2035. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front – 95 Points
