A Vertical Grenache Tasting Like No other

By Alexander Head /

Head Wines turns 20! That's 20 vintages under our belt, yet it feels like just yesterday when it all began.

It seemed apt to kick off this special year with a special tasting of Grenache, a variety that has been close to my heart since the start. But, we went all out—with a tasting of every Grenache vintage I've ever made.

I must admit, as I was opening the very earliest Grenache, a 2009 Old Vine Grenache in front of Andrew Caillard MW, I thought to myself "This is crazy! What am I doing?"

I am thrilled to say the wine was great, as was every vintage opened thereafter. It reaffirms my love for this variety and my desire to keep making wines the way I like to make them.

And hot off the press! Receiving these stellar write-ups from Andrew Caillard MW and his team at Vintage Journal and Andrew Graham at Oz Wine Review has put me and my family on cloud nine, raring to get going on our next vintage.

In the meantime, stay in touch if you'd like to hear about the other events we have planned for this special year.
