Celebrating International Grenache Day with a 96pt Winner!
By Alexander Head /2022 Old Vine Grenache – 96pts
Thank you to the Halliday tasting team for including this wine in the Halliday 2025 Wine Companion's "Top Rated: Grenache and Blends". Also, the Halliday Top 100 Wines of 2023.
This was an exceptional vintage and this is what James Halliday had to say on tasting, "Hand picked from 80-year-old Krondorf and 163-year-old Springton vines; foot trodden, hand plunged, matured in large-format oak. The bouquet is fragrant, with exotic spices showing the way, the palate juicy, laden with blue and purple fruits. Such tannins as exist simply add to the flavour."
As with all our special wines, this vintage was released for sale to our Stone Cellar* wine club members first; before being released to the general public.
If you'd like to be first, please join our Stone Cellar wine club.
And in celebration of International Grenache Day, we are offering a limited number of Grenache back vintages at current vintage prices! They can be found here.
But be quick! These go back in the cellar at midnight, Sunday 22nd September.
About Grenache
This is one of the most widely cultivated grape varieties in the world. Prominent in southern France, Spain (Garnacha), the United States and Australia, Grenache thrives in warm, dry climates. How lucky are we that our Barossa is home to some of the oldest Grenache vines still in production.
Not only is Grenache's adaptability to our changing Barossan climate a sustainability win, but it allows it to be used not only in our red wines but also in our Rosé.
