The Blonde 2019 Magnum

Head Wines draws from a diverse range of Shiraz vineyards in the Barossa andEden Valleys. To be considered part of ‘The Blonde’ a vineyard must performamongst the top few vineyards and have well defined perfume, texture andsupple tannins. The base Shiraz vineyard for ‘The Blonde’ is planted in the ‘Stone Well’ parishon a small 280m rise below the western ridge of the Barossa Valley comprisinga myriad of soil and rock types including red clays, sands and a deep limestonebase (blonde in colour).A small amount of Shiraz was also used from a dry grown vineyard at MenglersHill on sandy, decomposed granite to bring balance to the wine.It is these unique rocks and soils that help produce riper fruited wine thansurrounding vineyards, while still retaining acidity due to high altitude andlimestone content in the soil. Tasting Notes

In some years a very small percentage of viognier skins are included in the ferment for aroma, to soften tannin, set colour, add texture and more complexity with bottle age. Whole-bunch is utilised on a vintage to vintage basis while foot-treading, hand-plunging and pump-overs is usually the norm. 15-18 months maturation in smaller French oak of which up to a third can be new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered under stelvin capsule.
